How about a National Primary?
Over the last 6 months, people all over this land who tend to lean right have been very disappointed with the results of our primary. Arguments have insued because some may view our current candidate as a RINO while others dislike his staunch conservative line on abortion. I was very frustrated that my two favorite candidates, Duncan Hunter and Fred Thompson bailed even before the California primary had occurred. That just didn’t seem right to me. So I began thinking about how McCain made it to the forefront so quickly; and then I remembered how it all came down.
Most of the decent candidates dropped out before we even had a chance to vote in our primaries, and Huckabee threw a wrench in the machinery by staying in just long enough to force Romney out. (I don’t see that guy as a friend of our party BTW).
I think what we witnessed was the GOP deciding early on that McCain was THE MAN for 2008… perhaps even as far back as the 2000 election when he first ran. (Conspiracy theory? I don’t know). What I do know is that it didn’t matter that Hunter and Thompson had curb appeal to most of the conservative base. The decision seemed to have already been made.
So here’s my suggestion, tell me what you think:
In the past, I advocated a national primary, to be held the first Tuesday in May; noon to midnight EST, 9:00am to 9:00pm PST, and 6:00am to 6:00pm in Hawaii; same time frame everywhere, and every vote counts.
All the candidates run, and we as a party decide equally; not by states. No more of the nonsense where a candidate doesn’t do well in New Hampshire so they drop out before the rest of the nation has a say.
I believe that is how we’ll take our party back from the bureaucrats.

That would be a great way to get our party back, and for that reason WE will continue to suffer with less than Nominal candidates.
We need someone to take that idea forward, it needs to be placed in the hands of folks that can change the way we do business.
The idea is terrific, maybe it is something we can pitch at some republican conventions? some political Pundits? some Fox News channel?
Let me know when you want to print flyers and sign petitions or go bang on the doors in DC.

I was thinking about that today. Rob. I thought about emailing our congresswoman and see if she can point me in the right direction/

Comment from my friend, Laurie:
“I totally agree. Think about it in the last 20 years the Republican party has offered us George Bush Sr., Senator Dole, George Bush Jr. and now McCain. The two Georges have done more to damage the Republican party than the concerted efforts of the Democrats in the last 50 years combined. And McCain is just another disaster waiting to happen.

It would also eliminate the mess that Michigan and Florida found themselves in.
