"The Declaration of Independence acknowledges God as Creator, Lawgiver, 'Supreme Judge of the World,' and the one who providentially superintends the affairs of man. I join the Founders in personally acknowledging the importance of Almighty God's fixed moral standards for restoring the moral fabric of this nation." - John Adams

The issue being made Dave isn’t that anyone here advocates slavery or stoning, but that Barack Obama attempted to cloak himself in a form a righteousness that is very transparent by taking bible verses out of context.

For instance, in Leviticus 22:11
”…But if a priest buys a slave with money, or if a slave is born in his household, that slave may eat his food…”

It would seem pretty clear the bible is advocating slavery; however, the actual Hebrew word used is Nephesh which means:
soul, self, life, creature, person, appetite, mind, living being, desire, emotion, passion

There are other words associated with slave as well, like Amah that can also mean maid-servant.

The word ‘ebed was more closely associated with forced slavery and was spoken of in a very negative light. Deuteronomy never advocated slavery but always showed it as an undesirable condition:

• Deuteronomy 5:6
"I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
Deuteronomy 5:5-7 (in Context)
• Deuteronomy 6:12
be careful that you do not forget the LORD, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
Deuteronomy 6:11-13 (in Context)
• Deuteronomy 7:8
But it was because the LORD loved you and kept the oath he swore to your forefathers that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
Deuteronomy 7:7-9 (in Context)
• Deuteronomy 8:14
then your heart will become proud and you will forget the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
Deuteronomy 8:13-15 (in Context)

We know volumes can be lost in translation without careful study.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Christ was advocating personal responsibility; not instructions for governing a nation. On countless occasions, God sent his people to war and has charged the leadership of every country to be accountable for the well being of its citizens. That means that sometimes, we as grown ups have to make difficult decisions to defend our country, and rather than being reactionary, it is sometimes prudent to be proactive.

Barack took the bible out of context to argue against evangelicals who believe the bible is the infallible Word of God. I can think of another occasion when someone did the same thing to Christ while He was in the desert.

Matt. 4:1-10; Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread."
Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'[a]"
Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written:
" 'He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'[b]"
Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'[c]"
Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. "All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me."
Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'

You see, Satan was even a little more accurate than Barack but his intentions were nefarious indeed. Truth and authority cannot be assessed just because somebody quotes the bible.

So am I to understand that you all agree with the biblical principles of slavery, stoning and loving your enemies? If we're going to be wed to strict interpretations of the Bible, a lot of us will be found wanting.

What was it that Jesus said about the speck in your neighbor's eye?

I still cannot believe that so many Americans are fooled by this guy. It just amazes me that they will blindly follow him no matter what. It appears that to the eyes of many Americans, Obama can do no wrong. Where are their brains? They can't think for themselves? Are they really just sheep?

Hey, I'm glad his words are on record. If for some hellish reason this moron becomes President, we need to keep these things around to help drive his impeachment. I'm sure that about 10 minutes into his term he'll be guilty of treason.
